Why did you decide to become a language teacher and how did you get started?
I wanted a change in my life, I was a training manager for a medium sized company. I found it easy and enjoyable to move sideways from organising training programmes to teaching English.
Do you have any experience living abroad?
I was born and educated in England. I have spent most of my life before coming to the Czech Republic living and working in England. I actually spent one year working in Australia.
What do you like to do when you're not working?
I love walking in the countryside, swimming and reading. In the summer break, I go travelling each year.
What do you enjoy the most about being a teacher?
I think it is great to see people improve their English skills. Even when sometimes my students don’t notice, I do. I also enjoy meeting people of different ages and walks of life. Everyone has their own ever-changing life story.
What was your best experience as a teacher?
Last year I had a student with ‘learning difficulties’ and he passed the FCE with a very high mark.
If you had to live in another country, which one would you choose and why?
New Zealand, because of the amazing nature, wildlife and people.
Where do you like to travel?
Anywhere where people don’t normally go. I like to experience different nature and new cultures.
What was your greatest travel experience?
Looking after orphaned elephants in Sri Lanka. Watching them play in the river was very memorable.
What is your life motto?
If you don’t ask, you don’t get.
